Summary: 5 Stars
Haven't played Adventure 2 for the Atari (yet) so this will stick to the first game
Its the late 70s, you're addicted to Space Invaders, Asteroids, will later be playing games like Wizard of War, Dig Dug
You pick up the 2600 VCS. Great game with it (Combat). Space Invaders has great graphics
Pitfall! is great fun too, with GREATER graphics
And which game gets my vote for the most fun on the Atari 2600?
Thats right, Atari's Adventure. The game has 3 difficulty levels. After you play the first couple, you won't be playing them at all: they're simply not challenging
But put it on the 3rd difficulty level, and - oo boy! - you're gonna be playing this for hours
You can set the switch to A or B depending on whether you want the bird in the game, stealing your hard won items
Theres a maze, a bridge you can use to get into hard to access corridors (in the castles)
The graphics are, quite simply, appalling, but this sure gives me a lot more pleasure than playing Pitfall! on the Atari. Noone could ever solve that game anyway
The games not too difficult to solve, but look out for the 3 dragons (the red one is gonna chase you EVERYWHERE and hes FAST!!)
Did I mention theres a secret room with a dot in the black castle maze only accessible with a bridge - you can use that dot to access the programmers signature in the game itself - an easter egg (and a very early one in video games as well, if not the first on the Atari)
(Spaced Invaders had tricks you could use but was fiendishly difficult: you had to have one of the kind of ships left on the screen on the far left of the screen I believe)
So is this game fun? Hell yeah! the graphics are terrible, but this game can easily suck you in and you can spend a long time playing it again and again and again. Probably the worst graphics for any game on the Atari (yes I've played Air Sea Battle!) - but god its addictive. And Christ its fun
