Video Game Reviews of Okami

Customer Review: a beautiful gem, but seriously flawed
Summary: 3 Stars

This is perhaps the most beautiful game I've ever seen. Nice music, concept, etc.

Unfortunately, the it assumes a lot about the accuracy of the wii controllers that just isn't true in real life. The most basic stroke of the game, the "power slash" is just a straight line, but almost impossible to carry out in a way that the game will accept. This doesn't matter much of the time, but there are a few places where you *must* do it correctly several times in a row (or be sent to start again) and these are hell. I'm embarassed to say that I've spent 25 minutes at a time in these loops--slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, slash, etc., while the game chided me over and over about not paying attention. Totally maddening. Google for "okami power slash" and you can read others complaining about it. Unfortunately, I've found no workaround for this problem.

The battle controls also don't seem to work very well, so I often just end up wiggling the controller around and pressing the buttons randomly. This mostly works okay.

Aside from that, it also crashes if you kill too many enemies at the same time, but this is easy enough to avoid.

This game could have been so perfect, if only...

Customer Review: Just a must own wii game
Summary: 5 Stars

Let's start by saying that this game was originally released for Playstation 2. But don't get fooled, this game is a million times better on the Wii, almost meant to be for the Wii.

If you ask me to buy a game, I as many of you would probably do is read about it, about its gameplay, graphics, duration, audio, story, genre, etc. So that's what I will donow.

So, about graphics let's just say that if you're those gamers that preferred the almost real 1080p reolution, you may probably find it as an issue here. As a playstation 3 owner I can tell you that even the fact that the graphics for this amazing game obviously doesn't look real at all, the fact that they look like an aquarella painting, for me it's just an art work, and probably wouldn't change it if I could because it's one os the characteristics that can make you fall in love with th game.

Also, a mayor topic here is the story. Two words, just amazing. It's envolving the whole time, it can suck you like any other incredible games like Zelda. It has many twists in the story that makes you get even more sucked every now and then. So yes, the story is also one of the strong points here.

I don't want to make ths review much longer (or boring if you may) so I will just summarize the other topics I considered to be very important also. Duration, Okami took me around 50 hours to complete and not at a 100% (maybe a 80%). So if you like length, you're in for a treat. Also, the gameplay is very appealing all the way. Actually it resembles the series of Zelda games because of the whole variety of items, weapons and other elements, so for me at least gameplay likethat will fullfill my expectations.

Last but not least is for example, one of the greatest features of this Wii system: the wii motion controls. That's exactly why Okami is much better on the Nintendo. You play as a god that learns throughout the whole adventure various techniques that involve the using of pointing and moving in the screen with some accuracy for the technique to work, so the wii motion controls plays here a much nicer role in a way that if you imagined using the analog stick od the playstation 2 controller just woudn't do justice.

Well, that's all for the review of one of the greatest, most appealing games I've played in a long time. Buy it, now it's less than 20 buck and the experiece you'll get is more valuable. Also, Capcom, the developers of this game said that they would love to do a sequel but for that to happen they just want to wait for the original Okami to increase it's sales.

Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Thank you Capcom for this masterpiece.

Customer Review: A blast to play.
Summary: 5 Stars

I first got Okami when it came out on the Wii a year or so ago but I had yet to play it until yesterday. I am about halfway through the game and I have to say its a pretty amazing experience. The art style is what really sets this game apart from other games. Its unique and original and that is something lacking in video games today. Graphically this art style makes it look fantastic even though its a port from a Playstation 2 game. Sound is done well and the music fits the game in a suitable type of way. Controls was what I was worried about since Wii games are either spot on or flat out terrible. At first using the celestial brush will take some time to get used to but once you get the hang of how to use that and timing your attacks its pretty much one of the most fun combat systems in gaming today. Some of the characters will have you just downright laughing your head off which adds some good humor to the game. All in all if you like Zelda games or action rpgs Okami is a must own game. This game is just pure fun and is worth adding to your collection.

Customer Review: Best Wii Game I Have Played
Summary: 5 Stars

This game has it all:
It is very Zelda-esk, which is a good thing.
It has hilarious dialog.
A good story line.
Amazing art work.
And best of all it utilizes all of the Wii functions. I would recommend it to anybody. I have been playing for 45 hours now and I still haven't beat it.

Customer Review: OK gameplay, but has too many negatives
Summary: 2 Stars

I don't understand why this game is so highly rated. This may have been a fun game to play (4 star), if not for the following issues...

1) I found the graphics to be horrible when compared to Mario Galaxy or Zelda (my two favorite Wii games). I can barely tell that my character is a wolf.

2) The position of the cursor on the screen usually has nothing to do with where you are pointing the wiimote. You have to point the wii remote backwards and then redirect it to the TV for it to resync and position the cursor where you are pointing. And even then, when you move the cursor around, it is often very "jumpy". This is the first Wii game where this has happened to me.

3) There is no auto-save and when you lose all your lives you have to restart back where you last did a manual save -- which you can only do at the beginning of a level. So if you die fighting the big boss at the end, you have to repeat everything. So the only way to play is to just rush past all the goodies/monsters/extras/etc to get to the main objective, then come back and clean up after you succeed. Otherwise, you'll find yourself collecting the same goodie over and over again.

4) The game locked up on me three times during the main battles (in 4 hours of gameplay). Which, because of no auto-save (see #3), meant I had to start back at the beginning of a level. I think Zelda locked up on me once in all 200 hours of gameplay.

5) You can skip through some of the text and cut-scenes, but, unfortunately, not all of them. Which, when combined with the bad cursor functionality (see #2) resulted in wasting 40 minutes trying to get past a single simple challenge that involved trying to draw 6 circles on the screen. After each failed attempt, I'd have to sit through another 3 minutes of nothingness clicking past all the unskipable text.

I'll be giving this game away to one of my nieces/nephews. Maybe they won't be as picky.
