Video Game Reviews of MySims

Customer Review: Positive family oriented game - no blow em up & kill em
Summary: 4 Stars

Santa brought this game for my then 9 year old son, who is a big fan of the fighting games - Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc. Santa thought he should try something different. He's gotten to a 4-star town with over 40 hours of play. He enjoys hanging out with the virtual friends like DJ Candy and Travis and dancing with them and playing music. And building furniture that he wants to give his residents, not just items they ask for.

We decided to check it out too, so my husband and I sat down to play. We're in our forties and the gaming revolution occurred after we were older than the target age of the industry - so we've missed the boat in that regard. However, we thoroughly enjoy this game. It is goal oriented (something we're trying to teach my son) and we find it fun. I've achieved 5-star status after about 22 hours and my hubby is right-now a 4-star - rapidly approaching 5-star - town.

The load times get longer the farther into the game you get and this is something EA really needs to work on. The load time issues is what brought this game down to an overall rating of 4 from us.

Customer Review: Good game but not great
Summary: 4 Stars

Though I like this game but its not too great in comparison to other Sims games.

Customer Review: fun but...
Summary: 4 Stars

This game is really fun but it can get repetitive. In my opinion it's kind of easy. I only have one problem though...how do you find rock essences? thanks if you can help!

Customer Review: Repetative, but okay
Summary: 3 Stars

Definitely not what I was expecting from a Sims title. It gets very repetative and there seems to be no big goal in sight, like there is with most of the DS and GBA titles. I think they could've done a much better job, and I hope My Sims Kingdom has a lot of changes.

Customer Review: Fantastic for the Crafting/Customizing Focused
Summary: 4 Stars

Let's get it out of the way - MySims is not much like Sims. It's more Animal Crossing lite with an extremely detailed crafting and customization section. You won't get deep relationships and such out of this, what you will get is an amazingly adaptable game that can be compelling - if crafting is your cup of tea.

Essentially in this game you have the ability to use "essence", sort of spirits of various items, to customize furniture and objects. These add personality to said objects, and you use them to help Sims furnish their homes. However, you also get to design their homes, decide who moves in where, and even unlock new options for outfits, hairstyles, and more. Soon you're able to voyage to the far ends of the town in search of rare essences and new fronteirs.

The game is highly, highly crafting-centric, doing so with a surprisingly good engine that's overall pretty intuitive - and is like using building blocks. The level of freedom is amazing - you can take that simple Chair blueprint and turn it into a skull-bedecked throne, or give a Beat Box an Egyptian feel with some color choices. I myself even built an Interoceter from "This Island Earth."

This is all presented in a colorful, charming, cartoony manner with memorable characters and some amusing jokes (the band "Nothing But Drums" figures prominently). The Sims, which are pretty pre-programmed, are still endearing.

Frankly, this isn't a game for anyone who didn't enjoy building blocks, model building, and other crafts. Its not quite Sims really - but it is a lot of fun for people that do.
