Video Game Reviews of Metroid Prime 3: CorruptionCustomer Review: Great game, one of my top 3 Summary: 5 StarsI am starting off my review with this: it is in my top 3 of Wii games: right above Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and right below The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. Of course, they are all very close...
Anyhow, I really enjoyed this game. It makes great use of the Wii's capabilities, and manages to do it without being gimmicky. The graphics are defidently a plus. The fighting, I think, is great: Imagine this. You step out of a fortress onto a cargo platform. Suddenly, space pirates attack! You hide behind a crate, come out, kill a pirate or two, then go behind cover. A pirate sneaks up on you, and you kill him. Finnaly, a pirate ship omes, and you kill it. All the while, you did this by using the Wiimote to point and shoot, the Z button to lock on to enemies, and the nunchuk to use a laser grapple to pull shields off enemies. Yeah.
What I ABSOLUTELY LOVE about this game is the music. It can be creepy. It can celebrate victories. It always sets the mood for wherever you are. For example: If you go to a planet where an ancient tribe once lived, you hear a trible chant. On the title screen, the music is slightly creepy, and is just plain great. I can describe it no better than that. Buy it for yourself and hear it. You'll agree with me.
Anyhow, let me sum things up:
Presantation: Themed planets, clean menus, and one heck of a title menu. 9
Graphics: Amazing. Some of the best I have ever seen on the Wii. 9.5
Sound: Extremely cool, and always sets the mood. 10
Gameplay: Extremely fun, uses the Wii's capabilities without being gimmicky. 10
Lasting Appeal: Pretty long quest, a medal system, and things to buy with those medals. 9
Overall: An amazing game. 9.5!!!
So, there you have it. Now stop reading and buy this game.
Customer Review: the worst yet Summary: 2 StarsI don't get all of the hype about this game. it was SUPPOSED to be a groundbreaking FPS For the wii. i wasted [...]. First, checkpoints take about 1 hour or more depending on how fast you figure things out. The combat is fast paced with lots of action. This and puzzle solving are the two best and worst things in the game. I found a glitch, which is REALLY easy to find. when you power yourself up, just stop and restart for full power. you become unstoppable!!!! Then you already have 100 health and 300 lives. your health goes down about 1 or 2 for every hit, depending on the enemy. brawls end too quick for any relishment of the moment. the puzzles can take maybe 20 minutes to figure out at the most. the lowest was about 5 minutes. if you dont have time to sit down and "enjoy" this title, pass it up. if your a Zelda fan (like me) you may have some fun with it because of the puzzles. Halo, Rainbow six vegas, Graw 2, COD players, pass this title up. it took me 3 days to figure out a puzzle on the first real planet. checkpoints save for you and you have no control over saving time. enjoy one of prime's other games from the series. i can go on for hours talking about this games flaws, and a few seconds about its greatness. if you can wait, hold on for the Conduit to come out. i give it a .00000000001 out of 100. don't buy it!!!!!
Customer Review: Disappointing Summary: 3 StarsAfter reading multiple reviews I was sure this would be a winner. It may be just me but I never really got into it and quit from boredum about 1/4 of the way through.
Customer Review: from the perspective of a metroid newcomer Summary: 5 Starsi'll start my review by saying that this is the first metroid game i've played, so i have nothing to compare it to.
also a brief video game background: the last system i bought new was sega genesis. i bought a used ps2 a year or so ago and never really got into it. so from that, you can tell i'm far from an avid gamer and pretty new to this type of game [first person shooter/action/adventure/whatever]. i bought a wii a couple weeks ago and did an amazon search of best rated games and this game came up. reviews were great and the description sounded cool so i bought it.
i popped it in this weekend and after ten minutes, i could tell that i loved this game.
first and foremost i'd have to say my favorite part is the control configuration [although i would suggest swapping the fire and jump buttons - the B button feels more natural as a fire button to me]. i wanted a game that would really utilize the nunchuck and that's exactly what i got! the controls feel fluid and ergonomic [with a few exceptions, such as using the grapple lasso] and you constantly have both hand active. the controls take a little getting used to, but not bad; i was never very good with the analog sticks on playstation but the thumb controlled movement and wii remote aim works perfectly for me.
i'm not exactly on the up-and-up as far as current video game technology goes, but from what i can tell the graphics are stunning. bright vibrant colors, smooth lines, clean intersections, fluid motion, nice cut scenes. looks great to me!
game play is the perfect balance of puzzle, shooter, and roaming/exploring [i don't know if there's a better word?]. the boss battles can be a little frustrating but only enough to make it fun, not hard enough to be discouraging. one slight shortcoming is that i'm only about 10% through and already some of it is seeming a touch repetitive. but i've still got a long ways to go and i'm sure there are many things left for me to discover.
music/dialogue was nothing to call home about and at times i had to mute the tv because the music was driving me crazy. but honestly - if you want great music, buy a cd, not a video game.
all in all, i give the game a 4.7 out of 5 on the basis of controls and gameplay, with a strong 'good-graphics' kicker.
Customer Review: Awesome title Summary: 5 StarsIf you liked prince of persia:sands of time, ratchet and clank:tools of destruction(ps3), then you will definitely like this. Innovative game play, still getting use to the grapple function, it seems that many games that I have played in the past like to add this feature in, but cannot seem to get it quite right and I am not sure why, although I suppose it just takes some getting used to. Graphically speaking, the game is nice on the eyes. It is too bad that wii does not have more titles like this, it is certainly a gem in a sea of bad to mediocre titles.
