Customer Review: Lots of fun, but may take some time to appreciate

Upfront, I will say that my experience with using the Wii Wheel is limited primarily to Mario Kart Wii.
In glancing at some of the other reviews, it seems some people were frustrated with the sensitivity of the steering control using the Wii Wheel. That is a legitimate concern (though it has more to do with the Wiimote than the Wii Wheel itself, of course). Initially, it definitely is *easier* to precisely maneuver one's vehicle by using the standard Wiimote/Nunchuk controllers. If you simply want to master the controls quickly and easily, then the Wii Wheel may not be for you. However, I would encourage anyone who may be frustrated to give it some time. The Wii Wheel is great fun once you get the hang of it.
My wife and I were determined to become adept at using the Wii Wheel. For us, the whole attraction of the latest Mario Kart was this fun and inventive new way to play. In the beginning, when I was particularly frustrated with getting last place *again*, I did try the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo and easily got 1st place. (Now, my Mario Kart Wii record will forever have the blemish of my having used the Wii Wheel only 99% of the time...a fact which my wife oft draws my attention to!) I made the decision then and there that I would rather take the time to get better at using the Wii Wheel than to simply plow through the game as quickly as I could.
And I am very glad that I did. Once I gave it time and I really got a handle (no pun intended) on how to use the Wii Wheel, it has been great fun. To give hope for those who may be struggling, even my wife (who is more of a casual gamer) has managed to earn 1 star rankings or better on each of the circuits in Mario Kart Wii, and she has used the Wii Wheel 100% of the time.
As to the Wii Wheel itself, as other reviewers have pointed out, it is really just a plastic mold to hold your Wiimote. It is a deceptively simple design. One might think that it would be impossible to screw up such a thing as a plastic wheel cover, but some of the third-party wheels have managed to do just that (I bought a few such wheels at a dollar store!). I have never been unhappy with an official Nintendo controller and/or accessory, but I am almost always disappointed with the third-party ones I have purchased. Nintendo takes the time to get the ergonmics correct and also to create a product that is durable. They have succeeded in doing this with the Wii Wheel.
(In case it helps, I am 6'2" and my wife is 5'7" and neither of us have had any trouble with the ergonomics of the wheel. Both of us are able to hold it quite comfortably... even for many hours at a time!)
In closing, I would just say that I highly recommend this product for increasing the fun factor of Wii racing games. It may not be for everyone (as some of the other reviews illustrate), but I am very satisfied with it.
