Got delivery almost immediately. Wii Speak works as advertised. We can talk (not type) to whomever is online with us. Even if they don't have Wii Speak, they can hear us talking to them. Sometimes they can even hear things we didn't intend for them to hear.Customer Review: Great product with many uses

I have not used this while playing Animal Crossing, but I do find myself using this very often.
For Christmas I bought one of these for my son (5) and another for my parents. We live on different coasts and the time difference can make chatting difficult. We leave short voice mail messages for my parents (some times attaching photos) and then they leave ones back. My son loves coming home from school to see the blue light flashing on the Wii, to show he has a message from my parents.
I also use this for my other son (2) to speak real time with them. He always pushes the buttons on phones so before this they never really got to speak with him. Now he looks at the mii's moving around the screen and loves talking with his grandparents.
All in all this is a small price for another way to have fun with the Wii, but you really must know someone who has one for it to be of any use.

We purchased the Wii Speak after playing Animal Crossing City Folk with a friend on wifi that had one. My kids loved that we could hear her through our TV. Of course, she couldn't hear us. I was surprised at just how many neat functions it has with the group chat, voice mail and picture mail features. It will be really great when more games come out that support it.
