Video Game Reviews of Wii Classic Controller

Customer Review: This thing is worthless garbage.
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this so-called "classic" controller because I wanted another controller for Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I hate the stupid poorly designed Gamecube controllers, with the L and R buttons that have to be pressed down two inches to have an effect. So I go to the local big box store and pick up a so-called "classic" controller. I open it, and the thing does not plug into the console. It plugs into the Wiimote! So I've paid $20 for no extra controller. And I can't take it back because it's been opened. And the packaging says nothing about plugging it into the Wiimote. The idea that there should three or four separate control schemes for a single console is ridiculous. There was a time when one whole controller came in a box, and all the peritent details about said controller came on the outside of the box.

The fact is that the only reason to get this is to play VC games. No virtual console, dont get this stupid thing. Getting the stupid GameCube controller will at least give you another whole controller.

Customer Review: Best controller since the original SNES pad.
Summary: 4 Stars

I myself do not have a Wii, but my friend who has one let's me play on it when I go visit. Mostly I just play to old 2D games on the Virtual Console. He has the Classic Controller, and I must say it is the best feeling controller I've ever held since the original Super Nintendo controller, which it is modeled after.

Basically the Classic Controller is like a crossbreed between the old flat SNES pad and the Sony Dual Shock. Except instead of that aggravating, blister causing "split arrows" d-pad Sony has had ever since the PSX, it's got a full Cross with some kind of non-slip coating over it. The D-pad works perfectly, when you press a Diagonal Direction (Up-Left, Up-Right, Down-Left, Down-Right) it actually goes that direction. It also has two analog sticks like the Dual shock, minus the pushable tops. They also have the same octagon ridges that keep you in the right direction.

The placement of the two extra Z Buttons is a little odd, but you can get used to it. (They fix this on the Classic Pad Pro, which is so far only available in Japan) Start- and Select+ are solid plastic buttons which make them easier to press, and of course the 4 standard YXBA buttons are there too. The only thing annoying is the fact the plug comes out the bottom and it needs to be plugged into the Wii-Mote, which it sits in your lap the whole time. You'd -think- they would've been smart enough to make this thing totally wireless and independent, but I guess they wanted an excuse to make people buy more Wii-Motes.

Despite the fact I don't plan on buying a Wii (unless they suddenly decide to add Seiken Densetsu 3 to the Virtual Console) I'm in love with this controller. It would be the perfect thing to play Emulators with. So far I've heard there are ways to do this using a Bluetooth USB adapter, but it also requires a Wii-mote too, and some hard-to-figure-out software. *sigh* Here's to hoping that Mayflash or some other smart company will create a direct USB adapter cable for the Classic Controller like they had done for the PS2/Xbox/GC and other controllers.

Customer Review: GREAT PRODUCT
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this new wii controller! very easy to handle and easy to navigate around the menu using the buttons. I use it all the time for the classic games that i download. The only downfall that I see is that the cord on the bottom sometimes gets in the way; should have made it on the top or should have made it wireless, none the less, this is an awesome product

Customer Review: Wii Class Controller works fine
Summary: 4 Stars

We've not had the best luck with finding the right controller for our Wii. Specifically, the old Gamecube controllers which work with some of the classic Nintendo games. The little toggle switch seems to sieze up and stop working. Luckily, the classic Wii controller doesn't do that, and it can be used with the Nintendo classic games very well. Though I can't say it is 100% perfect, it's certainly the best choice out there.

Customer Review: One benefit but big downside
Summary: 2 Stars

Why do I have this controller that will not work on Nintendo Gamecube games that I want to play on my Wii? The only benefit this offers is that it plugs into your Wii-mote and then becomes semi-wireless (still killing your batteries). Do yourself a favor and spend the same $20 on a wireless Gamecube controller. You can still play the virtual console games, plus the Gamecube discs, and not have a remote connected 3 feet away.
