Video Game Reviews of DeBlob

Customer Review: polished, creative fun
Summary: 4 Stars

deBlob seemed like an interesting concept when it first appeared as a student project a couple of years back - and thankfully it has matured into a rather good little game in the intervening time. The core mechanic is novel, the game world/story has a lot of personality and the game manages to evoke the same feelings of carefree, simple *fun* as did Katamari. Definitely a strong recommendation for kids. My only criticisms would be that jumping can be frustrating (yet another pointless, semi-responsive Wiimote gesture...), and after a while levels and missions do get repetitive.

Customer Review: WOW! Great family fun!
Summary: 5 Stars

This game is easy to learn, fun to play, yet there are challenges for each person. I play it and try to get all the challenges, and save all the graydians in each level. My son (7) just tries to get through the levels. My husband (an engineer and VERY detail oriented) is not truly happy with less than all the graydians, all the challenges, all the trees, the blimp, all the buildings and signs painted... well, you get the idea. My 4 year old can even get in on the action with the untimed levels that don't have any "inkies".

In spite of the fact that you "splat" inkies, I would consider this game fairly non-violent. You are a hero, rescuing your fellow Raydians. The storyline is a battle, and the bad guys are decidedly Nazi-like, but it's really less violent than a lot of cartoons.

I love this game, and heartily recommend it for all ages. (Except maybe a teenager who is really into video games, but you never know.)

Customer Review: Good game for kids and adults

Just in case any parents are wondering....

My five-year-old loves this game and finds it relatively simple to play in "free paint" mode, which means no bad guys are trying to chase Blob. But in order to unlock the levels for free painting, they must first be beaten in "story" mode, which I had to do.

My impressions after playing the game through are that it's wonderfully inventive and fun in a cutesy way, but it does become slightly repetitive and the controls can be wonky. Blob doesn't always do what you expect him to do, and he sometimes gets stuck in between objects. Finally, the last level (Lake Raydia) is not available in free paint mode, which was quite a disappointment to my son.

All that said, people of all ages should enjoy this colorful and silly game, and parents can rest assured that their 5- and 6-year-olds will be able to play without getting frustrated.

Lots of fun, would have given five stars if the controls were a smidge better

Customer Review: de blob
Summary: 4 Stars

This game appears to be fun when there are 2 or more players. Not a very exciting game for single play. Seems brain dead then.
